This is the tenth year that Cowichan Intercultural Society’s Multicultural Leadership Group has gathering together youth and adults from different cultures, traditions and identities! MLG is a group that practices Inclusive Leadership, generosity and the spirit of giving week in and week out from September to June. The Multicultural Leadership Group engages youth and adults from diverse backgrounds in organizing and participating in community service. These weekly events, community projects and school projects are all aimed at building welcoming and inclusive schools and communities that are free of discrimination.
So far, this season, over a hundred Multicultural Leaders have been involved in connecting people from diverse cultures and generations: Making peace flags for the International Day of Peace, painting signs for the annual Walk of All Nations, facilitating Inclusive Leadership workshops, intercultural celebrations and more! Plans for the coming months include community dinners, youth safety projects, and inclusive dance and art projects.
The outcomes of MLG are expansive and heart-warming. MLG has provided a sanctuary for many who have experienced exclusion and other forms of discrimination. For others it has provided the opportunity to become allies. Together MLGers have empowered each other to transform struggles to fit-in into opportunities to stand out by creating positive change in their community.
Youth and adults from the Cowichan Region, Vancouver Island BC are welcome to drop in to MLG on Wednesdays after school. Email : email@example.com for more information.
