“Music is for everyone and together young and old we will help build and sustain our diverse communities. Embracing the rhythms of Africa by singing, dancing and playing together, we will also improve our quality of life.” (Amy and Tafadzwa Matamba of Mbira Spirit)
Meet a dynamic duo of Diversity Educators and Artists, Amy and Tafadzwa Matamba of Mbira Spirit. This pair of creative Inclusive Leaders are building welcoming and inclusive communities through their empowering, interactive diversity education performances. Where ever they perform, they help schools, groups, organizations, and entire communities relate to different cultures with peace, love and harmony.
The photo above is from a 2014 tour of BC’s Gulf Islands, and the photos below are from their January 1st sold-out show for all ages at the Duncan Show Room, Vancouver Island, BC,, Canada. Amy and Tafadzwa kicked off the New Year in Duncan, BC, Canada by setting their intention to do what they love every day of 2015:
- Singing and dancing while playing Mbira, guitars and more.
- Sharing stories that are sometimes hilarious, often thought provoking (as all good diversity education stories are), and always inspirational.
- Improving lives and building inclusive communities through music that embraces diversity.
Amy and Tafadzwa plan to spend much of the year traveling to communities throughout Vancouver Island, other places on the west coast of Canada, making music, educating young and old and raising funds for their dream of creating twin cultural centres on Vancouver Island AND in Tafadzwa’s country of origin, Zimbabwe.
If you live in the Cowichan Region consider signing up for their Music and Diversity Empowerment Course Tuesdays 1:30 to 2:30 at Island Savings Centre January 27 to March 3 or April 2 to May 12 (or both!).
